cranial sacral therapy
What is Cranial Sacral Therapy?
Cranial Sacral Therapy is based on a bioenergetic treatment model that functions at the membranes edge between mind, body, and spirit. The treatment involves tiny feather-weight manipulations (that feel invisible) of the bones of the skull. Cranial Osteopathy works on the premise that a healthy cranium expands and contracts in response to the rhythmic flow of cerebrospinal fluid (the fluid that circulates around the brain and spinal cord and gets tapped in a spinal tap).
How does Cranial Sacral Therapy work?
The appeal of the therapy lies in its subtlety working with the soft tissue matrix of the body in an indirect way. Instead of directly manipulating the tissue as in mainstream conventional therapies (physiotherapy, massage, and chiropractics), Cranio-Osteopathic treatment moves into the restriction and hold it at its still point until it corrects itself. In this way, Cranial Sacral Therapy can be both light and deep at once. Re-balancing the central nervous system naturally. A simple prescription for peace of mind.
Why is Cranial Sacral Therapy effective?
A Cranial Sacral session typically begins with the patient lying down fully clothed on his/her back on a treatment table. Although it is all about rhythmic pressure on the head, the therapist usually starts with the feet, “listening” for tiny movements and restrictions in the underlying connective tissue of the body. The therapist will also place his or her hands under the head and neck, and make tiny featherweight adjustments. The purpose is to work with the craniosacral rhythm to bring it to a still point around a restriction, so that the surrounding musculature will release and “unwind”.
